Welcome to the FIRST Alumni Chapter at Rice

FIRST at Rice allows Rice students who are FIRST alumni to give back by mentoring teams and volunteering at competitions. We are specifically focused on promoting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in STEM by supporting underprivileged teams whose members are low-income, minority students in East Texas.

Current Opportunities

• The FIRST World Championship is April 20 – 23 at the George R. Brown convention center in downtown Houston! It will host the top teams from all of FIRST (Jr. FLL, FLL, FTC, FRC) internationally.
  • If you might be interested in volunteering as a referee, field resetter, robot inspector, emcee, judge, queuer, etc., etc. at Champs, please fill out this quick form: https://forms.gle/im1a4bs9SqrQPiKz5
  • We’ll help you register to volunteer and handle all of the travel at no cost to you.

• Mentor an FTC or FRC team and get paid for your time spent working with your team, virtually or in person. With a generous grant from the hedge fund Two Sigma, we are able to reimburse mentors for travel and time at $18/hr.
• Help FIRST teams prepare for their judging interviews by providing feedback as “mock judges” in virtual judging practice sessions hosted by FIRST at Rice.
